Got to Go Holiday Destination

Step back in time at the beachside town of Robe

The Limestone Coast is a spectacular holiday destination all year round with its wild coastlines and magnificent natural wonders. The beautiful beachside town of Robe is located on the Limestone Coast, 350km south-east of Adelaide.

Once the third-largest port in South Australia, today Robe is famous for its crayfish, cafés and restaurants and spectacular natural beauty.

Stop in at the Beachport Visitor Centre and pick up a map of the Bowman scenic drive. This tour will take you along the spectacular rugged coast of the Southern Ocean. You will have the opportunity to stroll along the beaches, or wander out onto the rocky outcrops at the Salmon Hole and Post Office Rock. The drive also encompasses good vantage points to view passing Southern Right Whales during winter and into spring.

The Pool of Siloam in Beachport is a salt lake, seven times more salty than the sea and said to possess relaxing, therapeutic qualities. The pool’s depth, although close to the sea, does not fluctuate with the tides as its depth relies on soaks in the area. The high salt content in the lake makes swimming very easy, as salt water is extremely buoyant.

You can also drive along the 17 kilometre stretch of Long Beach; sail, surf or swim in the clear blue waters of Guichen Bay; water ski on Lake Fellmongery, or enjoy the thrill of soaring through the sky in an open cockpit during a tiger-moth flight.

Enjoy a walk along the cliff tops and watch the wild seas crashing onto the rocks below, or try bushwalking or bird watching in Little Dip Conservation Park. Historians will enjoy a heritage walk through the town centre, which includes a visit to the ruins of the Old Gaol dating back to 1861.

Whatever you are looking for in a holiday destination you are sure to find it at Robe, whether it’s a quiet caravan park or a roaring beach to catch a few waves.
