A standard ball and connector hitch is great for towing the average caravan or trailer along even, sealed roads, it does however, limit the type of terrain you can explore.
For those who like a bit of extra adventure in their self-drive holidays, a poly block articulated hitch or as they are more commonly known, a Treg hitch will allow you to tackle almost any off-road track you can find.
A Treg hitch has three main parts; the U-shaped receiver, the poly block hitch and the pin which holds everything together. The U-shaped receiver simply screws into where the standard tow ball is fitted and the poly block coupling attaches to the RV's A-frame and slides into the receiver, held there by the spring pin.
The advantages of having a Treg hitch are that it can achieve 700 of vertical oscillation and 3600 of rotation, meaning if you flip the van, you won't flip the vehicle. Treg hitches are also quieter on the road while towing.
So if you are planning to go off-road to find that perfect camping spot, a Treg hitch will allow you to tackle steep inclines and declines as well as steep angles of body roll.
